The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired catcher Tyler Heineman from the Pittsburgh Pirates for infielder Vinny Capra.

Heineman, 31, was added to the 40-man roster Sunday and optioned to Triple-A Buffalo. He was designated for assignment by the Pirates last Wednesday after batting .111 (1-for-9) with one walk in three games this season.

The Tampa Bay Rays acquired right-handed reliever Javy Guerra from the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday for cash or a player to be named.

Guerra had an 0-0 record with an 8.64 ERA in eight appearances with the Brewers this season. He was designated or assignment Monday, one day after he allowed five runs over 1⅔ innings in a 12-5 loss to the Boston Red Sox.

The Milwaukee Brewers acquired left-handed pitcher Bennett Sousa from the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday and sent him to the Triple-A affiliate in Nashville, Tennessee.

Cincinnati received cash and international bonus money in exchange for Sousa. The Reds had designated him for assignment last week.

The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired right-hander Jose Ruiz from the Chicago White Sox for cash considerations Sunday.

Ruiz, 28, was designated for assignment Friday after allowing nine runs on eight hits in four relief appearances this season, his sixth with the White Sox.
